Scoliosis is a curving of the spine, typically the spine curves away from the middle towards one side. There are three general causes of scoliosis:

  1. congenital which is present at birth;
  2. neuromuscular which can be caused by muscle weakness, paralysis and other disease; and
  3. idiopathic for which the cause is unknown.

Scoliosis tends to be seen more in girls and is less common in infants and children.

Symptoms of Scoliosis include:

  • Backache or low-back pain
  • Fatigue
  • Uneven shoulders or hips
  • Abnormal spine curves

Scoliosis can cause fatigue in the spine after long periods of sitting or standing. Pain can become persistent if there is irritation to the soft tissue and wear on vertebrae. Lower back pain treatment, physical therapy and in some cases surgery are required to treat or correct Scoliosis.

Consulting with a pain management specialist or doctor while help to diagnose symptoms and if you happen to suffer from Scoliosis.
